Complements

I had the priviledge of being able to play around in one of those inflatable jumpy castles, like they have at kids' fairs, this weekend. It had net walls and a nice, big, bouncy floor on which we all jumped to the point of exhaustion.

I noticed that I got the biggest jumps when following someone else's jump. When we all had our jumps timed out sequentially, we got launched into the air. However, when we would land at the same time, it was very similar to landing on hard ground. The jumps didn't go very high either.

I realized that it was this complementary jumping that was giving us the most air/enjoyment. It seems that relationships follow this pattern also. When you interact with someone who stands, walks, fights the same as you, very little advancement is made. It becomes easy to fall into a rut. However, when people complement each other, one finds that the other allows them to move in ways that they hadn't been able to before. Kind of the way Kirk and crew slingshot themselves around the sun to gain relativity-busting velocity: had they not used the complementary gravity of the sun to pull them in the other direction, they would have never saved those whales.

I feel a lot better today, thank you.
