Mr. Current Events: Oil

(2)
ephidryn Oct 08, 2002 22:26 Read 186 times, Dig?
I drive a motorcycle. I use a considerable amount of electricity that was generated from oil every day. We wage war for oil. Guess who owns stock in the oil industry? That's right... the most powerful man in America, President George W. Bush. I believe that oil is one of the ugliest warts on the face of my country. Our need for oil reinforces the demeanor of our cheeseburger-want-it-now society. Our governments lack of initiative to find alternative sources can be traced back to the legal form a bribery that is protected under the first amendment, lobbying. People with money have a huge amount of clout when it comes to the law making process because they have our law makers by the proverbial gonads. Law makers become such by advertising to us, citizens, we in turn vote for the one with the best advertising campaign and they then go back into the field of law making and bill passing to make more money for their next advertising campaign. How can you get in your car every day knowing that you are destroying our vessel the earth and contributing to pain and death in so many ways? It's the way. It's what everyone does. It's what my parents and my grandparents did. I don't even correlate gasoline with the world oil market, let alone understand why wars are waged and lives are lost. This is a disgusting truth about america.
