Water While It Rains

(not yet rated)
Greengirl Nov 11, 2003 12:46 Read 31 times, Dig?
We have stretched the idea of what it means to live, survive, and be successful to such an extreme that it is dripping with excess like sap from a sugar maple.  Our focus has been lost and our priorities misplaced amongst the crisp, green paper that we dig for in our holey pockets to buy some empty-calorie-grease-sandwich at a place where the workers are underpaid.  Is TV imitating life or is life imitating TV?  You tell me.  Because instead of being responsible for our own reality, we watch it on TV and amuse ourselves as people sell stupidity and sex.  Then again, what aren't we selling?  Now they seem to think they can patent life forms.  Plants suffer like the animals they test products on; blasted with hormones and injected with genes.  Perhaps if their screams could be heard someone might think twice.  But we aren't screaming while they fill us with chemicals.  It's okay to feel the way you feel.  They only convince you that you're wrong so they can make a buck off of you.  They'll just put you on drugs like the rest of the people.  We can't seem to talk to each other; instead we have to pay someone to listen to our problems.  And the Earth is starting to look like a layer-cake of band-aids, but somebody must have forgotten the Neosporin, because the scabs underneath still haven't healed.  It's as though no one knows the definition of prevention.  There is no systems thinking, no holistic vision.  Maybe no one even knows what I'm talking about because of the endless dichotomies that divide us all.  Our tendancy to make everything either black or white through labels and categorization of people doesn't help, either.  We always forget about the gray area where the majority of us are.  No matter what social paradigm you place yourself under, we all fall under the umbrella of humanity.  Wouldn't we all want the same things then?  So how do we bridge this gap?  How do we get past this communication barrier?  Because the only truth we'll ever find is that there is no truth.  But we can't help proclaiming what we believe is right and wrong.  It seems as though no one is ever satisfied or content.  We all stir in the great human unrest.  Obsessed with competition and consumed by monetary-aimed ambition, we become slaves to a system that perpetuates exploitation.  It's not about health, happiness, or humanity-- it's about convenience and profit.  It's the same damn story over and over.  When will we learn from our mistakes?  It's exhausting although most people long to be invigorated.  Perhaps growing old would be more enjoyable if life were different.  But perhaps we're doomed to keep watering while it rains.
