They say cats have nine lives, but my cats were never that lucky. I wonder if it goes for ppl too. I mean, lookin at my life, Id say thereve been some times that Ive been pretty darn lucky. This summer my sister and I were driving on the highway. She was used to a manual, but my parents had rented an automatic this time. But things were goin just fine until all at once my sister jammed her foot on the brakes and we stood there, in the middle of the highway watching our lives flash right before our eyes. Thankfully the cars behind us were attentive and slowed down immediately. How bad it could have been I just sat there, dumbfounded, while my sister was completely freakin out. I turned to look behind us, and all I could say was whoa, cool! Check it out, weve created a traffic jam!! this time it was my sisters turn to give me a surprised look, but she seemed quite happy for a remark like that. I swore to never tell my parents of this incident- the most recent I remember where Id been extremely lucky.
The first time I dont remember at all, but my parents have told me. I was suffering from a bad form of dyssentery. I was 5 yrs old, living in shithole Palopo on the island Sulawesi in Indonesia, where the closest city was an 8 hour drive. The airport and the only way to make an international call was in that city. That 8 hour drive tru the heat. On a good weekend my parents would drive the 8 hours to the city for a decent restaurant to eat steak. I recall my dad telling me that when we got to Palopo they had just placed the first traffic light. This was an amazing invention to Indonesians yet the purpose of it noone knew. So theyd stop to watch this traffic light turn from red to orange to green, back to orange and then red, at which point theyd already seen red and drove on. It was in this little town that I got sick. As my mother is a nurse whod studies all the diseases, and knew how to treat them, she treated me herself. But there was no medicine at reach and it got pretty bad. My mother was afraid of losing me on that 8 hour drive to the city, as my skin had already been so dry that if ud grab a piece of my skin and let go, it would stay up. My parents didnt know what to do anymore and I suppose our guard sensed this and asked for my parents permission to pray for me. So he sat by my bedside as I slept and prayed for my life. Now Im really not supersticious, and neither are my parents but I got better. My mother continued her treatment and I got better in no time. After less than two weeks I was back my old self. Coincidence? I dont know what to call it but Im definitely touched by it. And I havent been sick since.
So Ive wasted three lives so far lets hope it stays that way!
