i saw a girl today...

(6)
ephidryn May 04, 2003 16:21 Read 154 times, Dig?
she was on las ramblas. i was a bit drunk and i thought i saw a guy, like 16 or 17, yelling at this girl who was like 14 or 15. another older girl was standing in between the two constantly separating them. my drunken super hero instincts kicked in and i naturally walked into the center of the three and stopped. i had a sip of my beer right there in the middle of the three. they continued on like i wasn't even there. at this moment my friends maricarmen and lounes grabbed me and started to escort me away from the potentially violent situation. i insisted that my presence was needed until they explained that it was merely a mother with her two children. i felt horrible at that point not having looked closely enough at the mediator. i took another glance back at her and gauged "the mother" at about 17. i've heard of teenage pregnancy... but c'mon. while assessing the situation i noticed that the guy was raising his hand as if to hit the younger girl. i broke away from my friends and into a trot back to the epicenter of the conflict. i continued to position myself directly between the aggressor and the aggressed while offering nothing to the conversation. it was very strange for me to feel hatred and aggression in one direction and kindness and protectiveness in another. the crying girl obviously didn't want to go with the people she was with nor did she want to talk to them. i didn't say a word until the boy walked around me and got uncomfortably close to the girl. then i said "hoy no! quizas manana! vas!" really loud and all authorative. my heart was racing and what buzz i had left me and was prolly dribbling down the gutters of the touristic street. by that time one of his ganster friends was there trying to get him to leave and there was a crowd of people surrounding the distraught girl. "How are you?" my french friend sam said in deliberate english syllables. "I'm just looking at the beautiful view" i said, pointing to the trees. my veins were full of adrenaline while i was pretending not to keep an eye on the guy.

he came. he walked up to the group of people that was standing around his crying girl and he told her to take his hand. they left.

it pisses me off when i see that some people can't or won't help themselves.
